GA4 Migration

Get ahead of your GA4 migration

Converting from Universal Analytics to GA4

Move to GA4 with confidence that your analytics will be there for you in making data-driven decisions.

July 1, 2023 has come and gone. The world survived but your Universal Analytics (UA) didn’t. Google began turning off the UA taps as promised. If your UA hasn’t already stopped collecting data, it’s in the queue. And despite Google’s constant reminders filling inboxes around the world, the vast majority of businesses didn’t take action — and the dumpster fire continues to burn. Now is not the time to gamble with losing your data.

Three problems to solve

Too many business owners are under the impression they’re good to go because Google auto-created their GA4. Or they didn’t care about analytics before so they’ll get around to GA4 some day.

Three considerations need to be addressed in a post Universal Analytics world.

GA4 migration property review

GA4 setup

Verify quality

Google auto-created generic GA4 properties with default settings that don’t work in your favor. Review your properties for data quality, data retention, and usability.

Recreate your UA

Measure what you need

Making informed decisions didn’t stop with the sunsetting of UA. Create your analytics plan and work it to recreate and improve your data collection and evaluation setup.

GA4 migration UA history

Capture History

June 30, 2024 deadline

You can continue to access your UA data until June 30, 2024. Decide what data you need and capture that historical data to ensure meaningful reporting and analysis.

2023: The year of GA4

Your Universal Analytics setup stopped collecting data from your website on July 1, 2023 or soon after. (July 1, 2024 for UA 360 clients). There’s no way to say this nicely — the longer you wait to assess and properly set up GA4, the more useful data you lose.

Relying on Google’s auto-created GA4 property does not mean you’re golden. This false sense of security is only going to fan the dumpster fire flames and the panic that sets in when the reality of what that means actually sets in. You must control and plan your GA4 setup, especially if you have external integrations or tracking goals.

Making the mistake of relying on Google, puts your business at risk by leaving you with nothing more than a best-guess one-size-fits all setup. You’ll have questionable data at best, and a giant mess to clean up at worst. Even Google strongly recommended manually migrating to GA4 because they can’t recreate your UA set up.

And not to be a Debbie Downer, but Google will remove access to all of your Universal data after June 30, 2024 — and if your historical data isn’t saved, it will be gone forever. Don’t let that decision be made for you.

Successfully Migrate to GA4: Turn Hurdles Into Milestones

Now is not the time to sugar coat the situation website owners like you are in.

Stop avoiding the inevitable

The uptake on GA4 has been low and slow. If you filed Google’s hints and warnings away in your “later” folder, or decided to wait for the panic to die down, you’re not alone.

The best time to move to GA4 was before July 1, 2023. The second best time is now. Set yourself up for success getting your GA4 in order.

To make smart business decisions, you need to work with accurate data.

Start your GA4 transition now

You can’t afford to lose important historical data. Without the right data, you have nothing to support your decisions but assumptions and guesses — and that’s dangerous territory.

The sooner you start the transition to GA4, the more time you’ll have to sort out your situation, create the setup you need, and start taking advantage of the new reporting features.
